BioLPG - an Introduction

BioLPG

A renewable energy solution

There’s no avoiding it, we must begin to make more sustainable choices for our future
So let’s talk BioLPG. It’s renewable. It’s sustainable. It’s made from a blend of waste, residues and sustainably sourced materials, and it’s a step in the right direction.
BioLPG, an eco propane, is chemically identical to LPG and is compatible with all LPG products, but this gas has a sustainable twist. This means that BioLPG has absolutely no compromise on performance, so it’s as energy efficient as LPG, whilst supporting us all to achieve a sustainable future.

It’s a no brainer. With BioLPG, you can do your bit for the environment, whilst we provide reliable, eco energy solutions. One step at a time, and with your help, we’ll reduce carbon emissions together.

Our 2040 Challenge

At Calor, we’re aiming to offer our customers 100% renewable energy solutions by 2040.

To get there, we offer our customers a Green Energy Plan with BioLPG.

How is BioLPG made?

BioLPG is a co-product of the biodiesel production process. During manufacturing, the feedstocks undergo a series of complex treatments. They are combined with hydrogen in a process, called hydrogenolysis, which separates and purifies their energy content. During the refining process, a variety of waste ‘off-gases’ are produced that contain propane or BioLPG. For every tonne of biodiesel, 50 kg of BioLPG is generated from this off gas stream. This co-product is then purified to make it identical to conventional propane. And there you have it, the production of BioLPG.

By whom and where is calor`s BioLPG made?

Calor’s BioLPG is produced by Neste, the world leader in advanced biofuels, and is then supplied by us via our parent company – SHV Energy.  It is manufactured in a custom-built production unit in Rotterdam and is a co-product of the ground breaking NEXBTL biodiesel production process. Quite honestly, it really is as amazing as it sounds.

How a BioLPG tarrif works

Through a method called mass balancing, we keep a close track on the quantities of LPG and renewable BioLPG mixed into our main supply. By opting for a BioLPG tariff, you’re buying into this sustainable mix and a greener future. The entire LPG supply industry has committed to supplying 100% renewable energy by 2040. We’re proud to be leading the way towards meeting this ambitious target. Over the coming years the mass of the renewable energy injected into our supply will only increase as we move towards this goal.  I hope that you will join us in using BioLPG so that our Sons, Daughters, Grandchildren and Great grandchildren so on and so forth will all benefit from BioLPG in cleaner times to come!

See you soon!
